Get ready to step into the glamorous world of Robert Wun! This incredible haute couture designer, born in Hong Kong but now based in London, exudes nothing but sheer chic sophistication. Since 2014, Wun has been making waves in the fashion industry with his own label, primarily focusing on women’s clothing.

His designs have caught the attention of numerous high-profile artists, including the likes of Björk, Lady Gaga, Céline Dion, Solange, and Cardi B. It’s no wonder his creations are worn by these icons, as Wun’s designs are a blend of originality, extravagance, and a touch of cinematic allure.

Although Robert Wun typically prefers to keep a low profile and avoid major events, he made an outstanding impression on the fashion world in 2023 with his first-ever collection presented at Paris Haute Couture Week. The collection, titled “Fear,” explores the concept of embracing the fear of failure.

Like many creatives, Wun himself grappled with the fear of making mistakes during his design process. With “Fear,” he channeled this fear into a raw and unapologetic aesthetic, incorporating unexpected cutouts and stains. In doing so, he champions the beauty of imperfection and celebrates the art of embracing mistakes. The result was a collection that not only showcased Wun’s incredible talent but also inspired viewers to embrace their own fears and imperfections.

The “Fear” collection combines edgy, futuristic vibes, creating a captivating sci-fi movie-like experience on the runway. The avant-garde silhouettes, architectural cuts, asymmetrical shapes, and unexpected embellishments come together to create true masterpieces. Wun plays with textures and fabrics, crafting a visual feast for the eyes. It’s as if he invites us to witness his imagination unfold before us, where high-end fashion and wearable art.

And now, let’s talk about Robert Wun’s “For Love” collection, which debuted at the Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer couture 2024. From the moment I laid eyes on his designs, I was instantly captivated and fell deeply in love with them. The way he weaves a narrative on the runway is nothing short of mesmerizing. Each piece tells a story and takes us on a compelling journey, much like watching a movie unfold before our eyes. In his collection “For Love” Wun drew inspiration from his love for family and friends, scenes from movies, and cherished memories. His goal was to design a collection that blended horror with elegance, showcased the beauty in imperfections, captured the essence of grief as a reflection of love, and transformed memories into evocative and poignant creations.

It is safe to say that Wun often finds inspiration in challenging or negative life experiences and transforms them into something beautiful, much like many other artists. To me, fashion is an art that holds deep meaning and goes beyond trend-following. It represents a creative expression that transcends both the wearer of the garments and the individual who creates them.

Personally, I deeply admire Robert Wun as one of my favorite designers. His talent in crafting garments, that are not only unique but also breathtakingly beautiful, is truly unmatched. What truly sets him apart is his ability to merge cinema, fashion, and personal introspection in his designs. It is this distinctive combination that captivates and inspires me.

Wun’s design was inspired by the documentary “Fire of Love,” which I highly recommend. It’s one of my favorite documentaries. The film focuses on the story of Katia and Maurice Krafft, a couple passionately in love with each other and their shared love for volcanoes. Throughout the documentary, we witness their journey as volcanologists, dedicated to exploring the world and gaining a deeper understanding of these natural wonders.

Here, we can see that Wun was inspired by the famous scene in “Kill Bill” where Lucy Liu’s character, O-Ren Ishii, loses the top of her head.
